Story Songs & Sing Alongs

Some notes about this story song collection from Papa Jack

Stories songs were much more of a staple of American music before the age of instant information. From Woody Guthrie and Stephen Foster forward through the years and into the era of Tom T. Hall, Jim Croce, Don McLean, Steve Goodman, Gordon Lightfoot, Jimmy Buffet and Ray Stevens the page of American music history are populated with master story song writers.

Of late story tellers are congregated away from popular music and operating under the banner of Americana with little public recognition or reverence.

Story Songs and Sing-a-longs is a throwback to years gone by. It draws much inspiration from the America of our past (strongly represented is the Old West) and relives a genre mostly forgotten by the record labels of today. It is in honor of, and with a love for, the marriage of a story and a melody that Papa Jack weaves his way into the hearts of the listener. These songs are stark and entertaining. They are sometimes humorous and thought provoking, but often bone chilling and frighteningly real.

So as written in his autobiographical story song:

“Papa, Papa Jack, a little bit of fiction, a little bit of fact, leave your troubles, grab your boots and hat, let’s take a trip, with Papa Jack!”
